Is it safe to let a calendar app read your screen?
Short answer: Yotei sends only the screen area you select, and only after you have agreed. It deletes the screenshot as soon as you confirm the event, or within 48 hours if you do not. It never adds anything to your calendar without your confirmation. One caveat: the image is read by an AI service that may be outside the EU, so you should know where it goes.
What gets captured
- Only the area you drag a box around, not your full screen.
- Nothing is captured or sent until you agree to AI reading before your first capture. Yotei records when you agreed and to which wording.
- There is no background monitoring.
Where the screenshot goes
- Yotei sends the selected image to an AI gateway (OpenRouter), which currently routes it to Google's Gemini model.
- The AI returns proposed event details.
- You review and confirm every event.
Yotei asks the gateway to use only providers that do not store requests or use them for training. The provider may keep technical records for security under its own terms. Yotei does not use screenshots for advertising or to train AI models.
How long data is kept
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Screenshot | Deleted as soon as you confirm the event, or within 48 hours if you do not |
| Extracted text | Deleted when you confirm |
| Confirmed events | Kept until you delete your account |
| Calendar connection | Deleted when you disconnect or delete your account |
Calendar permissions
For Google Calendar, Yotei asks for one permission: to add and edit events on calendars you own. It uses it to add the events you confirm and to update them if you edit them later. Yotei does not read the rest of your calendar. Google reviewed this request and approved it, and Yotei is a verified Microsoft publisher.
Where the data is located
Yotei is run by KD Digital in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands. Its servers are with Hetzner in Germany. The AI service and other providers may be outside your country and outside the European Economic Area. For screenshots, a transfer happens only after your explicit consent. Read the privacy policy.
Your controls
- Stop automatic reading: Settings, "Stop automatic reading". It takes effect at once, and you can still enter events by hand.
- Get a copy of your data: "Request my data" in Settings or on your account page.
- Delete everything: Settings, "Delete my account". This erases your data, including the calendar connection.
- Complaints: the Dutch Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens is the lead authority. Privacy contact: privacy@yotei.win
Tips for safer use
- Select only the event, not the surrounding personal messages.
- Do not capture sensitive details such as health or financial information.
