How to Add Events from Slack and Chat Messages to Your Calendar
Plans made in chat rarely come with an invitation. Someone writes "Thursday 14:00 works" and that is the end of it. The meeting lives in a message thread that scrolls away. Turning those messages into calendar events takes a habit, and it is much easier when you do not have to retype the details.
Yotei turns a chat message on your screen into a calendar event you review first. See how it works
TL;DR
- Do not rely on scrolling back. Add the event the moment the plan is agreed.
- Write the date, time and time zone in the message itself so nothing is ambiguous.
- Send a calendar invitation for any meeting with more than two people.
- For messages you receive, capture the text rather than retyping it.
Why chat events get lost
Chat is built for conversation, not scheduling. Messages say "tomorrow" or "next week", which stops making sense the day after. A calendar entry fixes that by storing the exact date.
Habits that help
- Agree a date, then say "I will send an invite". Then do it straight away.
- Use a full date and time, for example "Thu 12 Nov, 14:00 CET".
- For a quick reminder, Slack has a built-in reminder command, but a reminder is not an entry in your calendar and your colleagues cannot see it.
Turning a message into an event
The quick way with Yotei
- Bring the chat message onto your screen.
- Press the Yotei shortcut and drag a box around the dates.
- Check the events Yotei found, edit anything that is wrong and untick what you do not need.
- Confirm, and they are added to your Google or Outlook calendar.
This works the same for Slack, Teams, WhatsApp, Telegram and any other app, because Yotei reads what is on screen, not the app itself.
Vague dates in messages
"Next Friday" depends on who says it and when. Check the date before you confirm. If the people are in different countries, also check the time zone. See calendar time zones explained.
Yotei deletes the screenshot as soon as you confirm the event, or within 48 hours if you do not. The AI service that reads the screenshot may be outside the EEA and is only used after you consent. Details are in the privacy policy.
FAQ
Can Slack add events to my calendar?
Slack can connect to Google Calendar and Outlook for some actions, and it has a reminder command, but turning an arbitrary message into a calendar entry is manual. A screenshot tool makes it quicker.
What if the message only says "tomorrow at 3"?
Check the date of the message and confirm the date and time zone on the review screen before saving.
Does it work for WhatsApp and Teams too?
Yes. It reads what is on your screen, whichever app it comes from.
